Yoga Therapy as a Superpower

©2013

Hello friends,

In the first newsletter of this series, I shared what yoga therapy is.
In the second, I talked about what makes it unique.

Today, I want to share what I think is one of the most valuable ways it can serve us – and one I think of as a real-life superpower: helping us navigate life’s unpredictability – otherwise known as change.

Familiar with change?

Familiar with the angst, upsets, surprises, and joys of that rollercoaster? I sure am. :)

Some changes are joyful and welcome. Others arrive suddenly and feel anything but. Most probably fall somewhere in between. They might happen gradually – a slow shift in health, relationships, or work – or all at once, turning life on its head. And even the changes we want can still bring stress, uncertainty, or a sense of being unmoored.

We can’t stop change from happening. But yoga therapy can help us meet it with more steadiness, resilience, and grace – an inner resource you can call on anytime. How? Here are some of the ways it works for my clients:

  • Movement practices adapted to your body
Yoga therapy designs movement and postural practices specifically for your changing physical body – to release tightness, support strength, manage pain, reduce fatigue, and help you feel grounded in your own skin.

  • Breathwork calms and restores your nervous system
Breath is one of our most accessible tools for regulation – I call it your inner yoga teacher. Whether you need to settle a racing mind, ease anxiety, or find energy, we can explore breath practices that meet you in the moment – portable, reliable ways to steady yourself when things feel unsettled.

  • Mindfulness and meditation gives mental perspective
Transitions can make it tempting to live in the past or rush into the future. Mindfulness and meditation bring you back to the now – the one place where clarity, self-compassion, and wise decision-making can happen.

  • Lifestyle and habit support for life balance
Small, intentional daily habits can be an anchor during turbulent times. We’ll look at adjustments that feel doable and align with your values, so you can create stability from the inside out.

  • A trusted, confidential space
Perhaps most importantly, yoga therapy offers a steady point of connection – a place where you can show up exactly as you are, without judgment. Together, we create practices that carry you forward.

Over time, these tools and practices become part of you – ready whenever life throws you a curveball. Clients often share that yoga therapy has helped them:

  • Feel steadier, stronger, and more grounded

  • Build resilience and adaptability

  • Strengthen self-trust

  • Access usable resources they can return to again and again

Change is inevitable. But when you have tried-and-true practices that help you stay steady, connected, and resourceful, it can feel a lot less like a threat – and a lot more like a challenge you’re ready to meet. Less like a victim of circumstances, and more like the superhero you are.

In the last newsletter of this series, I’ll touch on why I love this work, who might be a good fit for yoga therapy with me, and the practicalities of what that looks like!

In gratitude,
Nicole
