A Sampling of Delights
/©NICOLE BRATT
Dear friends, near and far,
Today, I share more than just the beauty of photography… but also some other delights that are bringing me joy, and might lift your spirits also. Enjoy!
Do you need a little awe?
Ant Lab’s slow motion insect videos are both relaxing and breathtaking. Who knew!? Check out the Rosy Maple Moth + 6 other spectacular moths. (If you like that one, you might peruse some of his other videos.)
Do you need a living room dance break? (Something I do on a regular basis to keep my sanity.)
Start with this modern mix of the classic Peruvian cumbia song Cariñito with the prolific Lila Downs. And if you like Lila, take a visit to the vibrant Oaxaca City with her catchy song La Cumbia del Mole. (We heard this every day, at least once, during my trip to Oaxaca in 2024. )
Do you need a good laugh?
We lost the funny, fabulous, and prolific Catherine O’Hara last week who gave the world so much laughter. And if it’s been awhile since you’ve seen her kick off the “Day-o (Banana Boat Song)” scene in Beetlejuice… consider treating yourself to it again. (Earworm warning!)
Do you need to put something down in writing?
Try futureme – write a letter to your future self! Yes, you can! Write your dreams, goals, hopes, a memory, etc. (It will give you prompts, if you aren’t sure where to start.) Pick a time in the future when you want the letter delivered. Send it! It’s free – and it’s awesome.
Do you need a beautiful public outdoor space?
The Pacific Science Center is right now in the process of removing the gates and ticket booths at their north entrance! This is happening to return the courtyard and arches to a public space, which was the original vision of renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki, who designed this iconic space for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. The removal should be complete by the end of February!
Do you need some inspiration?
Calling all fellow yoga, neuroscience, and consciousness nerds! Michael Pollan has a new book – A World Appears – coming out later this month – and he will be a special guest at Town Hall Seattle in early March.
Do you need a safe and special community practice?
Check out this upcoming live yoga and music event with YAIMA & special guests: “…an evening of somatic movement & deep listening… a self-guided mat-style practice rooted in awareness and curiosity, where tuning in matters more than ‘doing it right.’” Come as you are.
What’s bringing YOU joy these days? I’d love to know… and add them to my own list.
Remember that cultivating your joy is also a form of resistance,
Nicole
